Most of the students and their parents think engineering as a most respectable and growing profession in the current scenario. But for pursuing engineering, there are few things that student and their parents have to take care. First one is the selection of the right college.

There are number of Engineering Colleges in India, but students have to select the college with good infrastructure, facility, placements, location and fees etc. That college should be well-reputed and have good rank among the engineering colleges. Second one is the selection of the right course or stream. There are a lot of courses or specilaisations available in the engineering like Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Textile Engineering and many more, but students have to select the proper stream according to their interest and its future scope.

In the engineering sector, there is no boundation of creativity and inventiveness. There are many challenging opportunities that come into the engineering profession. There are a lot of career options for the engineering students and it depends on the students that they can opt for any one of them according to their interest and vision. An engineering graduate has the flexibility to go for the private sector or for the government sector. So here are the career options for engineering graduates in India.

Civil Services

After the completion of Engineering course, if anybody wants to be in the most respectable government services, he can go for the civil services. For that, you can prepare for India Engineering Services (IES), Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and Indian Police Services (IPS). But please note that the civil service exam is very difficult and to clear such exams, one has to be quite focused, dedicated and self-disciplined.

 Defense Forces

After engineering, students can also join the defense forces like Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, etc. By doing so students can get good profession as well as they can also serve the nation. By the University Entry Scheme (UES), students can apply for technical staff in these forces. Also, after clearing AFCAT, students can apply for the post of flying positions in IAF.

 Teaching 
After Engineering, students can also opt for teaching as their profession. As there are many Governments and Private Engineering Colleges in India and a lot of Engineering teachers are required to fulfill their needs. This is also a good and respectable option as a profession for engineering graduates.

 Private Sector

The private sector also provides many career opportunities to the engineering graduates. In the private sector, there are many IT, Electronics, Telecommunication, Electrical, Automotive and Textile companies which provide engineering graduates a very good platform to show their engineering and Technical skills and on behalf of their skills and performances, they receive the salaries, perks, incentives and other benefits. But in the private sector, the struggle is more as compared to the government sector.

 Become an Entrepreneur

If students don’t want to be the job seeker and want to be job provider, then they can also start their own venture. They can start a business related to their studies in engineering. For that, students can take guidance from other businessmen and their parents. If they have full dedication and motivation to do something, then surely one day you can become an entrepreneur.

Go abroad 

After engineering, students can also explore the option of going abroad. They can go abroad either on their working permit for the higher studies, like pursuing for MS or MS+PHD. Students need to clear for GRE/TOEFL for perusing MS in overseas countries. But one thing must be considered that you have to be mentally and economically sound for perusing MS in abroad.

Go for Master’s Degree

After Engineering, students can also go for the higher studies. According to their interest in technical or management field, they can opt for the M. Tech or MBA. By appearing in the entrance exam Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), student can take admission in IITs or other top most technical colleges of India and by appearing in the entrance exam like Combined Admission Test (CAT), Management aptitude Test (MAT), Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) etc. students can take admission in IIMs or other top most management colleges of India.
