John Stallworth Scholarship

scholarshipThe John Stallworth Foundation awards two types of academic scholarships based primarily on scholarship merit, financial need and evidence of leadership.

Type 1 Scholarhip is granted for one academic year in the amount of $1,000.00

Type III Scholarship is payable for four years as long as the student maintains eligibility*

The minimum scholarship award is $1,000.00 per year. In extreme cases, should a scholarship recipient require additional funding for educational expenses (books, fees, housing, etc.) special consideration will be given for assistance upon receipt of appropriate documentation.

Scholarship Application Procedure

Complete the scholarship application form.

Write an essay addressing the questions listed in the essay criteria.

Request an official copy of transcript and include it with your scholarship package.

Submit your entire scholarship application package to the John Stallworth Foundation in one envelope. Incomplete packages will not be considered. A completed scholarship application package must be mailed from the applicant’s high school counselor’s office and must include the following:

Completed, signed application form

Essay (typed, 250 words maximum)

Up to 3 letters of recommendations

Official high school transcript with SAT/ACT scores

Principal and/or counselors report

Copy of your Alabama A&M admission’s acceptance letter

Type I Scholarship – Award Criteria

Must be a United States citizen.

Must be a high school senior, graduating in good standing

Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and a score in the 50 percentile on either the ACT or SAT college entrance examination.

Must have exhibited leadership qualities in high school, church or community activities.

Must provide high school principal or counselors report form and at least one letter of recommendation from community leader (e.g., pastor, teacher, etc.).

Must submit a typed essay (250 words maximum) outlining future career goals and briefly state why he/she should be awarded the scholarship.

Must submit a copy of Alabama A&M University’s acceptance letter with application package.

Type III Scholarship Award Criteria

Must be a United States citizen.

Must be a high school senior, graduating in good standing.

Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and a minimum ACT score of 21-23 or an SAT score between 990-1070.

Must have held leadership positions in high school, church or community activities.

Must provide high school principal or counselors report form and at least one letter of recommendation from a community leader (e.g., pastor, teacher, etc.).

Must submit a typed essay (250 words maximum) outlining future career goals and briefly state why he/she should be awarded the scholarship.

Must submit a copy of Alabama A&M University’s acceptance letter with application package.

Must maintain a 3.30 or better cumulative grade point average while in attendance at Alabama A&M University to remain eligible for continued scholarship assistance.

ESSAY CRITERIA (Maximum 250 words)

Typed essay should include the following information:

Why scholarship applicant should receive the scholarship.

State applicant’s goals beyond college.

State how applicant’s plans to support Alabama A&M University and the community after graduation.

* If a Type III Scholarship recipient falls below the minimum grade point average of 3.30, recipient will be informed that he/she is no longer eligible to receive scholarship assistance.
